Temporary Closure of Punakha Dzong
30 October 2026

Punakha Dzong is temporarily closed to all visitors from 30 October 2026 until further notice, as announced by the Punakha Dzongkhag Administration.

The closure is a precautionary safety measure following the outburst of Shintaphu Lake in Gasa Dzongkhag on the night of 29 October. Visits will resume only after official clearance from the authorities.

Travel partners are requested to inform guests with upcoming Bhutan trips and prepare them for possible adjustments to scheduled Punakha Dzong visits. Our Bhutan team will coordinate alternative arrangements where feasible, subject to local conditions. Guests should follow their guide’s instructions and local authority advisories.

Dharma Adventures is monitoring the situation and will share further updates as they become available.
